According to data reported by the Ministry of Education and Training at the online conference on COVID-19 prevention and control for all educational systems on November 8, 28 provinces and cities have reopened schools for in-person classes while 35 other localities are offering online and television programmes.

Many localities are planning to reopen schools in “green” or COVID-free districts from November 15.

Localities nationwide have also sped up COVID-19 vaccination for teachers, education staff and students aged from 12 to 17 years old. A set of safety criteria in COVID-19 prevention and control for all educational systems has been issued nationwide as a basis for deciding whether or not schools are allowed to open.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Ngo Thi Minh asked localities continue to review their pandemic situation to consider the possibility of allowing students back to school.

Localities which are at a low or medium level of pandemic risk can resume direct teaching learning activities at schools as long as they ensure the safety of students according to the Ministry of Education and Training Health’s criteria.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen stressed the need to establish a steering committee on COVID-19 prevention and control in each school to ensure the safety of students when direct teaching and learning activities are resumed.

Before receiving students back, schools must also develop plans in order to actively respond to possible pandemic situations, he added.
